$35 computer changes marketing, forever.

What if everyone in the US, or even the world, could get online? Imagine the marketing possibilities. Well, that’s no longer a pipe dream. We’ve seen many “cheap” computers come and go but the Raspberry Pi has them all beat. Coming in at $35, this little sucker has everything you need to run basic programs Read More...

Story vs. Cool. Cool can win if it’s mindblowing.

Rushing around Austin this morning depositing my children to their individual houses of learning my mind wandered, as it always does, to the tasks ahead of me. I have a few big projects going on and one of them is heavily story based and if you know me or read me you know I LOVE Read More...

Look Ma! I’m using the Force!!! Even better, I’m getting a story.

It’s tough work being a Padawan, what with all the saving the downtrodden, uncovering plots and kissing my Masters lightsaber. But that’s a small price to pay for being able to force leap 30 yards into a group of baddies and putting them down in seconds with groovy force abilities and my own trusty lightsaber. Read More...

Logos through the eyes of a child

A few things strike me when watching this video: 1) Not that she recognizes logos but which logos she recognizes. McDonalds? Duh. Apple? Wha? 2) Some logos represent companies and some represent ideas. BP=Gas. Starbucks=Coffee. 3) Five-year olds are much more insightful than we give them credit for (see her description of the Boeing logo) Read More...

Rap shall set them free.

This video struck me. Not for its production value or for its featured artist’s (G-A-B) somewhat interesting beats but because these kids are Libyans who until recently had no way to express their true feelings beyond a notebook or to a few close confidants without fear of imprisonment or worse. But since the fall of Read More...

Never mind Han, I shot first!

I try to be good. I really do. But when standing in front of a giant God-only-knows-what that looks angry and the conversation is heading down a dangerous path I sometimes panic–I start blasting. Then again, I’m a smuggler, that’s what I do. Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is the newest massive multiplayer online Read More...

Netflix tries to fix Epic Fail and Fails.

Adele thought it would be a good idea for me to follow up my previous post about Netflix’s horrific blunder in handling their price change earlier this year. So, here it is: Two fails don’t make a right. Other than that, my thoughts are best summed up by this brilliant comic from TheOatmeal.com. CONTINUED AT Read More...

The Web: Just As Addictive As Cigarettes And Booze

This story from the Huffington Post about the addictive nature of the internet has me torn. On one hand, the internet keeps me in a never ending hyper state of stimulus hunger that infringes on my every waking moment. On the other, it keeps me employed. The internet is a cruel, cruel mistress.

The Netflix Meltdown

It’s been pretty amazing to watch Netflix completely destroy their brand. They went from the underdog everyone rooted for to the player that everyone loved to the jerkiest of jerks jerking us around. I’ve been a Netflix customer for years. I’ve been with them through numerous price changes and plan updates but I’ve always been Read More...
