I Want to Be an Astronaut When I Grow Up

As if space and astronauts weren’t cool enough already, Commander Chris Hadfield has gone and made them infinitely cooler. Since December 2012, Commander Hadfield has broadened our knowledge of life in space far beyond what we’ve learned from watching Apollo 13 and eating astronaut “ice cream.” The tech savvy Canadian astronaut has spent the last Read More...

CES and the Digital Health Revolution

Far and away my favorite part of the Consumer Electronics Show is digital health and fitness. And lucky for me the floor space devoted to this category increased by 3x that of last year. Digital Health has been a part of CES for many years, but this year was different. There seemed to be a Read More...

The Consumer Electronics Show – a Preview

While today is the first official day of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, there were plenty of great panel discussions, press announcements and buzz yesterday to get conference-goers salivating for all to be found on the showroom floor this week. In just a few short hours yesterday a handful of obvious themes punched Read More...

Rewriting the 80/20 Rule

By Kathie Haydon Data and large amounts of it is nothing new to anyone who works in media. I can remember sitting in the media lab as an assistant media planner on a big DOS computer with its blinking yellow cursor typing in code lines for MRI from a 1,200-page binder. Yes, the digitization of Read More...

Big Data: Rethinking How We Find Information

In business today, many feel trapped by the amount of data that is created by the marketplace interacting with our brands. We feel compelled to measure and have a desire to understand every ounce of data, every tweet and every line of a report. Data is real time, complex and a seemingly uphill battle in Read More...

Levitation with sound waves. So that’s how the aliens do it.

Truly amazing. Once again, science is the coolest thing around. The article at TPM says the folks at Argonne Lab are able to “cancel the effect of gravity.” So now we know how the aliens are able to hover their spaceships over cornfields. Next stop, the far side of the galaxy.

Shape Shifter

By Travis Scoggins Quite a lot to take in from yesterday’s Apple presentation. On one end of the spectrum lies the stayed, tried and true iPod Classic which remained in the lineup. On the other end was the iPod Nano, a product that has shape shifted five times. Enough to be considered for enrollment in Read More...

The iPhone 5: Love-its and Let Downs

By Katie Parsons Love-its Larger 4” screen: I can think of no other scenario in which an extra inch would send the blogosphere into such a tizzy. An extra inch on my TV? Pleeeease, like I need to see any more of Kim Kardashian. But an additional inch on my iPhone screen? Oh the places Read More...

What happens when a baseball is pitched at 90% the speed of light? Awesomeness.

Via What if? Answering your hypothetical questions with physics, every Tuesday Once again, science is cool. After about 70 nanoseconds the ball arrives at home plate. The batter hasn’t even seen the pitcher let go of the ball, since the light carrying that information arrives at about the same time the ball does. Collisions with Read More...

How do you land on Mars? Very carefully.

Amazing video. Great production. Drama. Excitement. Danger. Nerds! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “Science is so cool!”

  •   about us
Curiosity is GSD&M’s collective of thought, inspiration and discovery. It's a place where our people can share cool stuff with each other — what they’re thinking about and what they’re exploring both on- and offline. We’ve opened it up to people outside the agency, and we hope it satisfies your curiosity, too.
